Pace Aphasia Intensive January 16-18, 2018

We are seeking people with aphasia for a three day program at Pace University. The Pace University Aphasia Intensive will be held from Tuesday, January 16 to Thursday, January 18, 2018. The program will run from 10 am to 1 pm each day.

The purpose is to provide three days of intensive conventional aphasia therapy, in order to see if improvements can be seen in a very short time. We hope to use what we learn in order to offer more aphasia intensives in the future.

Location

Pace University Speech and Hearing Center
163 William Street
New York, NY

The location is 5 blocks from City Hall, and is served by the A, C, R, W, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 trains.

Pace map

We are looking for people with aphasia who are physically able to get around in downtown Manhattan. The room is accessible, but the building is under renovation.

Small group program. There will be two to four people in each session. Participants will be selected to have compatible needs for therapy.

There is be no cost to attend the program.

Pre-registration is required. There are a limited number of seats. Participants are attending on an entirely voluntary basis, and consent to travel to and from the program independently, and attend at their own risk.

To register, contact Dorothy Ross at dorothyeross@gmail.com or call 347 247-5245.

Participants and/or significant other will fill out a needs survey before the program, and complete two communication surveys before and after the program. We will also ask for feedback after the program is completed.

Group leaders – Linda Carozza and Dorothy Ross

We look forward to working with you!

Trip to Governor’s Island August 12, 2017

Several of us planned to go to Governor’s Island tomorrow, Saturday. Unfortunately, my husband had a mild health setback today, and I am concerned about leaving him for a long time until I see how he is doing. Therefore, I will not be coming on Saturday. I regret not being able to be with you for this trip.

The plan was to meet in time to catch the 10 am ferry to Governor’s Island. If you are planning on going, take water, snacks, and an umbrella. The weather report says there will be rain tonight, and a 20% chance of rain during the day tomorrow. Food and drinks are available on Governor’s Island, but it is not certain how far from the ferry you must walk to get to the food service area.

Governor’s Island is accessible, but paths are sometimes uneven, so plan for that.

The group is planning a trip to the Museum of the Moving Image at a date to be determined. Hope to see you there!
